GUNS, GOD, & the CHURCH

Much has been said about guns and the current administration's position regarding guns in American.  The recent shootings of Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords, Trayvon Martin, the Oakland, CA school and many others have again brought the gun discussion back to the forefront.  I don't believe the guns are the problem.  It is the people who posses the gun that is the problem.  I believe that stronger legislation on guns could be helpful.  However, I am more of the persuasion that we need to focus on helping people be better people.  The focus seems to be on "problems" rather than "people".  We seem to spend time trying to legislate problems when in fact we should seek to lead people.  The question then may be who should lead them and where should we lead them?  I think the church is going to have to take a more active role in the community in seeking to lead the efforts of leading people to Christ and better relationships with people.  We, the church, are so busy trying to make people inside better, that we forget to help the people outside.  The people who are not a part of the "church" but should really be the focus of the church.  Yes, let's get guns out of the hands of people who don't need them, but let's also get God in the same people.  Talk to me bloggers!

WOMEN: Work or Stay Home?

The conversation is growing regarding women and the election.  I think women are a blessing and very valuable to our society.  Recent comments by Hilary Rosen, Democratic strategist, about Ann Romney, wife of Mitt Romney, Republican Presidential Candidate, being a stay-at-home mom has caused a great deal of stir in the political arena.  My concern is not so much about the political aspect of the comments, I am interested in the social implications.  I think that a stay-at-home mom/wife is a very noble job and responsibility.  In fact, I believe that our society was stronger, children were more obedient, and family life was more balanced when mothers /wives were afforded the opportunity to stay home and raise their children and/or care for the home.  Furthermore, I believe that it is equally commendable that many women have excelled in their respective careers and made significant contributions to society and the home while working.  I believe because a woman is a stay-at-home mom/wife does not mean that she is disconnected from the economic perils that face working women.  I believe they are affected differently, but both are affected.  Speak back to me my blog family.  Should more women stay home, should more women work, are women devalued if they do not have careers outside of the home...TALK2ME!

Separation of Church and State

It is often stated that it is important that there is a separation between church and state.  However, can the church really separate itself from the state?  Do you believe the church has a responsibility to sound the trumpet of justice on injustice in government?  Perhaps, the church should sit on the sidelines and allow injustice to be done to the church by the state.  Is it time for the church to take a stronger position and have a stronger voice regarding what happens politically?

RACISM, THE ECONOMY, THE BIBLE

In light of our current election year, do you believe that racism or the economy will have the greater impact in the US Presidential election? What do you believe the bible teaches regarding racism and issues of poverty and wealth?
